The National Institute of Japanese Literature (NIJL) and the European Association of Japanese Resource Specialists (EAJRS) are pleased to invite you to the third Kotenseki Seminar.
This year, we will explore Japanese publishing and distribution from the late Edo to the early Shōwa.
Our speaker will discuss how Japan’s publishing industry and culture evolved following the opening of the country.
The seminar will be delivered in Japanese, without interpretation.

We cordially invite you to attend the first japanological CrossAsia Talk after the summer break: On 4 September 2025 from 6 pm (Berlin time), Prof. Sarah Panzer (Missouri State University) will give insights into her research work ‘Documenting the Lives of Germany’s “Forgotten” Prisoners of War (POWs): Photographs in the Bandō Collection’.
The NIJL/EAJRS Kuzushiji Workshop will be held "online" from 31st March to 2nd April 2025. Detailed information about the workshop can be found in the attached document.
